New Apple AirPods and Watches

Going backwards through the presentation, I started by covering the phones. Before they got to the phones, Apple revealed the new AirPods Pro 3 and Apple Watch 11, SE, and Ultra.

The Watches

The new watches are thinner, more durable, and come with new watch faces. All models now support 5G if you choose to buy the cellular option. This is pretty neat, considering the 3G and 4G networks are being replaced with 5G networks, and devices without 5G support will notice a steadily worsening coverage. Apple also uses machine learning to detect hypertension, which will most certainly save lives.

# The AirPods Pro 3 TLDR: The rumours were true. Plus, the shape has been improved.

Long: The AirPods Pro 3's flagship feature is live translation. They will recognise someone talking in a foreign language and use active noise cancellation to replace their voice with an AI generated near-real-time translation. If the other person isn’t also wearing AirPods, you can hold up your phone and speak, and it will display translated subtitles for your voice. Personally, I think we’re building ever smarter machines that turn our brains to mush, but I also can’t learn every single language on the planet…

Besides live translation, AirPods Pro can now detect your heartbeat and movement to track workouts, just like Apple Watch. They are also IP57 now, meaning you can wear them in the rain. Apple improved the shape of the earbuds, which should help how well they stay in your ears while you workout. Oh, and battery life is improved.

Neither update is worth replacing my current devices, I think. My Series 10 watch, and my AirPods Pro 2 work just fine, and I have no complaints. Last time, my watch lasted five years from a series five to ten. I replaced my AirPods from 2016 with AirPods Pro 2 when they died after about six years of use.
